Stroke 27 - Remodeling, Apartment 1

Also in remodeling projects the SketchUp is very useful, the rapid 3d modeling facilitates the organization of spaces, especially if they are small, like this.

This is a 3 bedroom apartment on the surroundings of Lisbon, with about 80 sqm, built in the 90s.

Although relatively new, it was built by a cooperative with controlled costs and is therefore very limited, both in architecture and finishes.

The problems mentioned were mostly the small size of the spaces, especially the living-room with only 16 sqm, and the difficult to organize the kitchen.

Just keep the two walls that define the main rooms, the remainder being demolished.
The new light walls, is the partitioning of the toilet, which, while maintaining its location is slightly reduced and see their access changed.

The pantry is replaced by two closets that also serve to separate the rooms.

The many indentations formed by the structure and technical ducts are recovered, and reinforced, to install a series of built-in furniture witch, in addition to allowing storage, visually unify the space.

This amount of storage was essential for the elimination of office space, because it primarily served as a library and diverse storage.

The current workspace is limited to the use of a laptop, which may be in the room, the kitchen, the room ...

The room is separated from the corridor by a mobile that support the trimmer dining area and a closet to support the entry.

The kitchen, while maintaining its base configuration, is slightly extended for the toilet space, which allows to set the alignment with the duct of the chimney.

In addition, it gain space for a dining counter supported in the washing machine.

The bathroom space is lined with wood creating a Nordic sauna, or, to be modern, a SPA.

Addressing the space of the old pantry, closets allowed to expand the space of the rooms.

Furthermore, chest of drawers is created across the width of the rooms below the windows.

Those were the solutions found to solve the main problem in this flat, a very common problem in this type of construction, the lack of space.

Again SketchUp was essential in the rapid modeling and presentation of proposals.

Here is a small animation that allows you to view this work.
