To enrich the viewing of indoor environments is
essential to have a good collection of furniture.
Although it is very easy to find furniture in SketchUp’s
3D warehouse, this does not always correspond to our needs, and usually
increases the weight of the models.
To ensure that we get the desired results, it worth
spending some time developing our own furniture.
It´s very simple, just model the basic shapes of the
furniture and, this is the trick, apply textures that give it some realism.
In this example I’ve modeled a very simply collection
of IKEA sofas, just using the measures and images contained in the product
data, easily accessible on the website of the brand.
I limited the model to its basic form, without
rounding edges or add other details that increase the size of the file.
The texture usually can be created from the product images,
in this case, a leather that, by its brilliance and the stitches perfectly
located, do not allowed to obtain satisfactory results.
As such, I drew the texture from scratch in an imaging
program, forming the characteristic stitches of this sofas and some shine to
the notion of leather.
The result is very good and the weight of the file is
minimal, and can easily be applied to other textures, or other finishes.
This image, of a project I'm working on, shows how some
simple, but custom furniture, can create a more realistic environments.
It is really worth this small investment, let this
example more…
