Stroke 46 - Renault 4L

Here is another classic automobile that was meant to be simple, modern, cheap and functional.

8 Dec 2012

Stroke 45 - Objects simple but effective (7), stove plates

More objects for indoors with photographic textures, now a collection of kitchen plates from IKEA that goes straight to the SketchUp 3D warehouse to download.

Stroke 43 - Objects simple but effective (6), sinks

Returning again to the indoors objects, this time with a collection of sinks from IKEA, as promised in previous strokes, they are available to download at SketchUp’s 3D warehouse.

18 Nov 2012

Stroke 42 - Citroen DS 19

This is one of the most revolutionary cars of all time, a classic that was really (but really) ahead of his time.

11 Nov 2012

Stroke 41 - Remodeling, Apartment 2

I'm working on this project, is not finished yet, but can already show the use of some of the components that I’ve showed in previous strokes.

Stroke 40 - My Street...

This one gets out a little from the spirit of the brushstrokes, but has everything to do with modeling and visualization.

I applied for the creation of a Lottery ticket with the theme that is most dear to me, the architecture, in this case with a street that is the popular Portuguese architecture from north to south.

I invite a little visit by clicking on the image, and if you like, give me a "Like" or equivalent, maybe it helps.

Thank you.

Stroke 38 - Eames chair

One more piece of furniture enriched with photographic texture, this time a design classic.

1 Oct 2012

Stroke 36 - Playing with styles in 4 steps

How about changing the display style of the models in SketchUp to create a signature in your own projects?

In this case a presentation that wants to simulate what would be a real X-ray to a building, perhaps to show the apartment of a doctor...

Stroke 30 - Object simple but effective (2), living-room

Continues the theme of objects to enrich the indoors viewing, this time with living-room, and beyond, decoration.

6 Aug 2012

Stroke 29 - Objects simple but effective (1), kitchen

To enrich the indoors viewing it is nice to have a good collection of objects that give more realism to the images created.

As I have been insisting, it is very easy to find all types of components in the SketchUp 3D warehouse, but they do not always correspond to our needs.

Stroke 28 - My cars (4), Rover 416 GTI

Another car that was been in my garage for a few years, and now, comes to the blog.

Stroke 27 - Remodeling, Apartment 1

Also in remodeling projects the SketchUp is very useful, the rapid 3d modeling facilitates the organization of spaces, especially if they are small, like this.

This is a 3 bedroom apartment on the surroundings of Lisbon, with about 80 sqm, built in the 90s.

Strokes 24 - 26 - How to model a car, step by step tutorial

I had some difficulties when I started trying to model cars, even if looking on the internet, I found very useful tips, but in-depth tutorials and easy to understand for beginners never found.

So for those who have the same difficulties I had, here's my attempt to show in great detail how to model a car in SketchUp.

This tutorial also serves to show the functioning of most SketchUp tools.

The tutorial is only available in the Portuguese version of the blog (here) and can be translated directly on the translator tool.

Some example pictures after the break...

Stroke 20 - Furniture from photo (tutorial)

I had already shown that it is possible to create furniture with simple techniques and get results that are quite effective.

Now I will show all the steps to model a mobile from a simple picture.

27 May 2012

Stroke 19 - Rehabilitation (2) House of the Oven

Returning to the rehabilitation theme with another project of a house built in dry stone masonry.

The image used in the presentation is identical to the House of the Well, as well as the techniques used in SketchUp.

21 May 2012

Stroke 18 - My cars (1), Citroen Dyane (Revised)

Revised in 2013

There are many cars available in the SketchUp 3D warehouse; however, you hardly find exactly the one you own.

But no problem, some modeling and some photos are enough to get back to your custom fleet.

13 May 2012

Stroke 17 - SketchUp yourself (tutorial)

Do you know that people who come in SketchUp components are pictures of employees of the program? What if you put your own image or the image of your clients in their projects?

5 May 2012

Stroke 16 - From paper drawings to models

Another alternative to make technical drawings into three-dimensional models, this time based on the principle of the models made of paper, commonly known as papercraft.

2 May 2012

Stroke 15 - Frazer-Nash Namir, 2009

This Namir, Arabian name for tiger, has the signature of Italdesign Giugiaro and is the prototype for revival of a brand with the fastest and most ecological hybrid in the world.

Another chance discovery that led me to the shaping of a different vehicle.

1 May 2012

Stroke 14 - Rehabilitation (1) House of the Well

Also in the presentation of rehabilitation projects is very practical to use SketchUp, rapidly obtaining images that allow easy perception of the proposal.

In this case, the image taken is a mix of textured or colored design for the property, and monochrome design contours to the environment.

Stroke 13 - Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, 1964

For those who like cars the name Ferrari is something special, so I could not help shape one of these icons.

Stroke 12 - Virtual Tour (2)

Another house virtual tour, this one had a very rigid program that required some gymnastics to overcome preconceptions.

This animation allows to show why some options in this project are so important, which, with simple technical drawings would be difficult to achieve.

25 Apr 2012

Stroke 11 - Return to the past - Delage D8 Grand Sport

Another 30’s sports car that gets new life with SketchUp, this time from a little-known and now defunct French brand, the Delage, and its D8 Grand Sport model, from 1932.

24 Apr 2012

Stroke 10 - Simple but effective furnishings

To enrich the viewing of indoor environments is essential to have a good collection of furniture.
Although it is very easy to find furniture in SketchUp’s 3D warehouse, this does not always correspond to our needs, and usually increases the weight of the models.

To ensure that we get the desired results, it worth spending some time developing our own furniture.

Stroke 9 - Alternative technical drawings

Even if the presentation of virtual models is the best way to show a project to the client, for us, architects or other experts, the best are the technical drawings.

So why not combine them both, and submit technical drawings in a form understood by anyone, and perhaps, lead to improved reading of technical drawings.

16 Apr 2012

Stroke 8 - Return to the past - Invicta S Type 45 litre

Invicta S Type 45 litre, 1931, in Sketchup

Another small British sport car that gains new life with SketchUp, in this case of a lesser known brand, the Invicta, and its model S Type 45 Litre Tourer, from 1931.

15 Apr 2012

Stroke 7 - How to create components from photos (with video tutorial)

Having a good collection of generic components allows us to easily enhance a final presentation, the creation is very simple and the results are worth really.

In this case, people images components, transmit live and environment to increase the perception of reality and human scale.

9 Apr 2012

Stroke 6 - UMM 4x4 Alter

This is a car manufactured in Portugal; the most successful so far, therefore, could not help modelling it in SketchUp for use with national pride.

The modelling was made from blueprints available on the Internet, as shown on the base model.

8 Apr 2012

Stroke 5 - Virtual tour (1)

This is the best way to show a project in all its fullness, a virtual tour, perfectly conveys all the features that the building will have once built, the way they relate to all spaces and how they can be lived.

Of course there are programs that let you create these images with an aspect very realistic, but through hard work and lots of hardware power. As we move into the realization of video this work and need of hardware add even more.

Stroke 4 - Return to the past - MG Six 18/80 Mark II

There are images that make us want to know more about what they portray, as some cars that hardly we shall see in reality, or architectural works that make us curious about his spatiality.

With the help of SketchUp we can experience these images differently, as I will show in this and other strokes, with some examples of return to the past.

Stroke 3 - Study of shadows

We know that a correct solar orientation is as important as some architectural solutions, sometimes very simple, to improve the thermal performance of buildings in a passive way.

Not always the solutions we propose are understood by customers, its direct implication in this question.

A simple animation with the path of the sun and the shadows produced throughout the day help such understanding.

Stroke 2 - 3d Modelling from photos - Cadilac Urban Luxury

Normally car modelling is made from their blueprints, but, it turns out that in this case I did not have these drawings, only the pictures of a study from Cadillac, the Urban Luxury, which I found quite achieved taking into account its size.

Stroke 1 - Drawing by hand, or maybe not.

In this first stroke I will address the design by hand, the technique we used to give initial shape to our ideas, but not normally used in the presentation of a project developed further.

Here I bring the drawings of a micro-house, such as a "smart fortwo" resulting from the recovery of a stone rural ruin.

Presentation stoke

My entry into the blogosphere is intended to demonstrate that, also in the area of 3D modelling, the best things in life are the simple things, or, as the master Mies said, less is more.

We all know how important a virtual model is to effectively communicate our ideas, however, not always the effort expended to run these models is rewarded, especially when using complex programs for early stages of the project.

SketchUp has revolutionized this issue, not only because it is a program designed for users with no knowledge in this area, but, having capabilities that make it truly versatile, from an early stage to the final presentation, including animations, with an amazing quality.

If you dispense those super realistic images, and expensive, which are justified only in projects with some dimension, we can have it all without the need for other support tools, in other words, "SketchUp without additives."

That's what I intend to share in brief “strokes” with who pass through here, so, welcome.
